Geofence areas helps you plan more organized routes by setting virtual boundaries—called geofence areas—on a map. This is especially useful for fleets with area-based operations.
In Detrack, you can create geofence areas which can be tagged to specific vehicles to specific geofence areas. Jobs will then automatically be assigned to a geofence area based on their location (latitude and longitude).
By ensuring that jobs are matched with the right vehicles based on their assigned geofence areas, you can improve your route efficiency and avoid unnecessary cross-geofence travel
1. Creating a Geofence Area
1.1 Accessing the Geofence Area feature
1.2 How To Set Up a Geofence Area
To set up a Geofence, you can navigate to the Geofence menu.
Click on the Add Geofence or the Geofence icon on the map
Start drawing your desired area on the map. You will have to click on the map multiple times to link the points together to create the geofence area.
Once you finish, name your geofence and click Save
Select the geofence and select the drivers to be assigned to the selected geofence
Alternatively, you can also assign geofences to your drivers from the vehicle details section (Vehicles > click on a driver > edit geofence details)
(Note: Any job that doesn’t fall within a geofence area is marked as “Unzoned,”. You can tag a driver/vehicle to the unzoned areas to allow them to be assigned to these unzoned jobs)
2. Applying your Geofence rules for Route Optimization
2.1. Applying Geofence
To make sure that your routes follow the Geofence rules, you’ll need to turn on the Geofence logic setting under your General Route Settings.
Navigate to Routes > General Route settings
Under the 'Plan routes by' dropdown, select Geofences
Click Save
Once enabled, Detrack will only assign jobs to vehicles that are tagged to the same geofence area as the job. This ensures each vehicle stays within its designated area during routing.
2.2. Creating A Route
Now, you can see from the Geofence setting that all the drivers have their own designated area for routing.
You can begin by creating your Multiple Routing (VRP), fill in the necessary details, and click Proceed to optimize route:
Once the routing has been processed, the division will refer to the geofence area that has been created and tagged previously:
