Before You Start

Before starting the migration process, keep the following prerequisites in mind to ensure a smooth transition and prevent any disruptions to daily delivery operations:

  • Keep the old Driver App installed: Do not remove the old app during or immediately after the switch. Retaining it allows administrators to easily roll back a driver to the previous version if necessary, without requiring a full reinstallation.

  • Schedule the migration outside of your drivers’ working hours: Coordinate with drivers to migrate either at the start or end of their shift. Avoid switching apps while drivers have jobs in progress to protect ongoing workflow and data.

  • Ensure a stable internet connection: Verify that drivers are connected to reliable mobile data or Wi-Fi before beginning the setup to complete the migration without interruption.

Minimum Device Requirements

The new app requires a minimum level of memory and OS to operate effectively.

Before migrating, check that your drivers’ phones meet the minimum requirements for the new app:

Supported

Platform

Minimum OS

Ram

iOS

iOS 15.5 or later

No separate requirement

Android

Android 7.0 or later

3GB

Not Supported

  • Any iPhone older than iPhone 6s (cannot update to iOS 15.5)

  • Any Android device below 7.0 or with less than 3 GB RAM

Step 1: Copy the Migration PIN code

You can view and copy the Migration PIN code in two ways:

Option 1: From The Vehicles Page

Navigate to Vehicles and locate the driver you want to migrate. In the Migration PIN code column, click the copy button to copy it.

(Note: Only users with the Manage vehicles permission can view the Migration PIN code and App Version columns in the Vehicles page. If you don’t see these columns, ask your admin to enable this permission for your role)

Option 2: From The Vehicle Details

Click on a driver in the Vehicles page to open their vehicle details. The Migration PIN code and App Version are located there, and you can copy the code directly from this view.

Why A Migration PIN Code Is Needed

The Migration PIN code is an important security measure to ensure we migrate the correct job details for each driver. The unique PIN code verifies that the driver is connected to your account and prevents unauthorized devices from accessing your organization’s data.

Step 2: Share The Migration PIN Code With Your Driver

Send the 6-digit migration code and the driver’s Detrack ID through your preferred communication channel (SMS, chat, email).

Both values are needed on the new app for the driver to migrate and each code is tied to one driver and can only be used once.

To make it easier for drivers, you can also download a quick guide to send along with the migration code and Detrack ID.

Step 3: Driver Downloads The New App

Drivers can download the new Detrack Driver App from the respective app stores:

Step 4: Driver Enters Their Detrack ID And Migration Code

Once the new app is installed, the driver opens it. On the “Are you already using Detrack?” screen, they tap Yes, I use the Detrack Driver app.

Note: For new Detrack drivers who tap No, I’m new to Detrack on the same screen, they won’t be asked for a migration code or Detrack ID. They can proceed with the normal sign-up flow as a first-time user.

Next, they’ll see the “Enter your current Detrack ID and migration code” screen. They need to enter:

  • Their current Detrack ID

  • The 6-digit migration code shared by the admin

If the driver doesn’t know their Detrack ID, they can find it on the old Driver App. Tapping Send Detrack ID on the old app copies the ID so they can paste it into the new app or send it to themselves.

Once they enter both correctly, their jobs and account will be migrated to the new app and they’ll see the Setup complete screen. The driver then taps Start to continue.

Enabling Location Settings

After tapping Start, the driver will be prompted to update their location settings.

For iOS Users

The driver will see a location permission prompt. Ask them to select Always so the app can track their position for job assignments and routing.

For Android Users

The driver will see a location permission prompt. Ask them to select Allow all the time.

Note: Drivers need to keep their location settings as Always (iOS) or Allow all the time (Android) throughout their shift to ensure their location and tracking data are recorded.

Once location is enabled, the driver can start viewing and working on their jobs.

Common Error

Your drivers may run into this error when entering their Detrack ID and migration code:

  • “This migration code is not valid.” - The migration code doesn’t match the Detrack ID entered. You need to verify that both values are correct and try again.

Note: The driver can try again with the same code. After repeated failures, they’ll need to wait up to an hour before trying again.

Monitoring Who Has Migrated

In the Vehicles page, the App Version column shows which app each driver is using (Driver App V1 or Driver App V2). Once a driver migrates, their Migration PIN code is replaced with the migration date.

How to Roll Back to the Old Driver App

You may need to roll a driver back to the old Driver App if a device experiences performance issues or runs slowly due to marginal hardware and memory capabilities.

To roll back a driver:

Step 1: Locate The Driver In The Vehicles Page

Navigate to Vehicles and find the driver you want to roll back.

Step 2: Restore The Previous Detrack ID

In the driver’s row, locate the Previous Detrack ID (e.g., 551b5069e7c87c27). Copy this ID.

Paste the previous Detrack ID into the Detrack ID field to restore the driver’s connection to the old app.

Step 3: Confirm The Rollback

Once restored, the App Version column will change back to Driver App V1, and a new Migration PIN code will be generated for the next migration attempt.

Step 4: Driver Opens the Old App

Ask the driver to open the old Driver App on their phone. Their jobs will be transferred back and will appear in the old app, allowing them to continue working as usual.

Important: Perform the rollback at the start or end of the day, when the driver has no jobs in progress. Before switching apps, make sure any photos and proof of delivery (POD) data from completed jobs have finished uploading to avoid missing data.
